Crosstown secures $ 3 million for zero carbon energy in Europe!

In the world of cleaner energy, it looks like an exciting turn. tech.eu reports that a company based in Zurich, just fresh 3 million US dollar of seed-finance. This investment will help to promote the introduction of your innovative H2R® Burner technology faster. What makes this technology so special? The H2R® burner enables existing gas turbines with 100% renewable fuels, i.e. hydrogen, can be operated without having to replace the entire turbine system.

That sounds like real progress! By using the H2R® burner, a single turbine with 100 MW output can save over 300,000 tons of CO₂ annually. In view of the fact that tens of thousands of gas turbines are in operation worldwide, there are significant options for combating climate change. Crosstown's solution is faster and cheaper than complete system changes, which offers gas turbine operators a flexible way to switch to zero carbon emissions. In addition, the company plans to adapt the technology for various turbine models of industry giants such as Rolls-Royce, GE, Siemens and ABB.

The H2R® burner in detail

The H2R® Burner itself is a hydrogen-powered retrofit burner for gas turbines that are currently working with natural gas. It enables operation with pure hydrogen, which does not result in carbon emissions. The products of hydrogen combustion are only water vapor, and the burner can also be used in dual operating modes, i.e. in mixed conditions between natural gas and hydrogen. This flexibility is another plus point that makes the H2R® burner the perfect solution for the immediate reduction of NOx emissions. Crosstown stimulates that the technology is able to fulfill the strict international emission regulations even by 2050.

Another advantage of the H2R® burner is its modularity, which enables adjustments to gas turbines of different types. The shelf life of the H2R® burner remains as part of the current industry standards. This means that installation can be carried out within planned overhaul phases, which offers additional flexibility for operators.

on the way to the circular economy

In a larger context, this development is in line with the need to overcome linear to circular value creation systems. Every year, several million tons of waste worldwide are incurred, and it is becoming increasingly important to protect resources and promote sustainable practices. The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft actively works to design this transition towards a circular economy in which resource consumption and waste are minimized. These include durable constructions, reuse and recycling. Here the H2R® burner could play a key role as part of the decarbonization strategy by enabling sustainable energy production.

summarized, Crosstown shows with his H2R® burner how innovation and sustainability can go hand in hand. This technology not only offers a quick and cost-efficient solution for gas turbine operators, but could also make a decisive contribution to achieving the goals of climate policy and at the same time supporting the transition to a more sustainable energy future.
