This innovative solution brings the zero-trust principle into the mobile phone area and is particularly aimed at IoT and OT devices. What makes the "cellular" solution so special? The entire data traffic is directed via the "ZSCALER Zero Trust Exchange" platform, whereby special subscriber identity modules (SIM) cards are used, which enable a direct connection to the Zero Trust Exchange (ZTE). These new SIM cards ensure safe communication without additional software. Companies like Volkswagen are already using these Sims in mobile scanners in their warehouses, which underlines the versatility and practical benefits of this technology.

How does the whole thing work? The connection is very easy: an IoT or mobile device with a ZSCALER SIM binds to public 4G/5G networks. The SIM transfers mobile phone traffic to the nearest Cellular Edge, which then forwards the data flow to ZTE. There the security guidelines are checked and enforced. This agentless security architecture has its advantages: it is ideal for resource-limited IoT devices and enables a central visibility of all data streams via the ZSCaler platform, which allows comprehensive surveillance and analysis.

The new service aims to close security gaps in mobile phone networks. The Zero Trust protection model is integrated directly into the SIM card, which means that every connection is checked. ZSCALER Cellular can be used in different ways: in conjunction with existing mobile phone providers, as a fully integrated solution directly from ZSCALER or as a private campus variant for companies who want to replace Wi-Fi with 5G.
