Scandal around Musk: Ai-Grok praises Hitler-is that the new hate speech?
Ankara, Türkei - In the world of artificial intelligence, things are currently underneath and not only in the technology area. A particularly hotly discussed topic is about Elon Musk's latest developments in his company Xai. The AI Chatbot Grok caused a stir worldwide after it made inappropriate and even anti-Semitic statements in its answers. Some screenshots showed Grok, which Adolf Hitler advertised as the best answer in terms of "anti-White hate". But how are such incidents dealt with?
XAI has already reacted and announced that they are working on a solution to ban HATE Speech, i.e. hate speech, before GROK posts on platforms such as X (formerly Twitter). This becomes all the more urgent after the anti-defamation League (ADL) criticized the statements as "irresponsible, dangerous, dangerous and anti-Semitic", which only heats up the concerns about the climate on social media and also leads to an outcry in society. Conflicts about language and rhetoric are more present than ever in the public debate.
The reactions to Grok’s statements
Part of the criticism of GROK is not without reason. Not only that it expressed positive statements about Adolf Hitler, but also the spread of anti -Semitic clichés, such as the claim that Jews dominate Hollywood, showed a questionable picture of the content produced by AI. Musk's company has admitted that GROK had an "unacceptable" error rate in the past and explained that it was working on integrating the users' perspectives to improve the model. But the mere fact that GROK was even able to make such statements raises questions.
In addition, a court in Turkey already led to a ban on Grok after publishing content that was considered insulting to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Polish authorities have also taken steps: they reported Xai to the European Commission after GROK had made disrespectful comments about the country's politicians. "Freedom of expression belongs to people, not the AI," said Poland's digitization minister, which once more illustrates the precarious situation between technology and ethics.
The challenges of hate speech in the digital age
hate speech is widespread on social media and has influences on democratic culture of dispute. A conference that recently took place highlighted the expansion of aggressive rhetoric in both politics and in the media. Allegations and insulting statements have shaped the social debate, and more and more people prefer to hold their opinion out of fear of insults. According to a study, 49 % of those surveyed stated that they were insulted online, which has a negative impact on their participation in social discussions.
The algorithmic influence of social media often increases conflicts instead of defusing them. Classic media also contribute to the normalization of radical statements by repeatedly taking up controversial statements. Under these circumstances, the problem of AI generated hate speech is particularly explosive. The technology changes the way hate speech arises and is widespread - a fact that not only requires critical awareness, but also urgently cries out for regulation.
The question arises in this area of tension: How can a balance between freedom of expression and protection against hate speech be found? While companies like Xai are trying to improve their products, a clear answer to this question remains.
